02/11/20 – Mr Adams; Now see here…I’m not sure that I totally agree with your second paragraph Mr Adams…at least I can work out our handicaps a darn sight quicker than that described by the WHS…( is that Smiths by the way ? ), and or course you conveniently forgot to say that what you describe in your last paragraph only of course applies for rounds completed on Tuesdays between the hours of 2.14 pm and 4 38 pm!! Hon Sec
02/11/20 – I am sensing a handicap appeal here Mr Chairman. – Stu
02/11/20 – Hi, I do the scoring for our Seniors (even though not playing currently) and we are having fun and games, especially as we have a competition on Wednesday. As Burnett-o-matic had little reference to the previous system actually used in golf clubs (CONGU) I don’t suspect it will make that much difference for the Aardvarks. As the new system (WHS) is generally incomprehensible to most regular golfers, one can only wonder if Mr Burnett secretly had a hand in its design? However as every round you play now in theory has to be entered into WHS, perhaps the club golfers might actually be allowed by Mr Burnett to play off their actual course handicap (being their Handicap Index times the Slope rating of the course, divided by 113 and multiplied by 95% for a Stableford competition (I kid you not)? Happy golfing. Chris
02/11/20 – Col … Surely this just goes to show how much the ‘ Burnett-o-Matic ‘ ( Pat. (still) Pending ) was like that great midfield player, Martin Peters ….10 years ahead of its time !! Nick
02/11/20 – Nick … This should keep you occupied during lockdown … https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/54771401 – Col
10/10/20 – Good morning all AARDVARKS. Please find enclosed all the important details you need for: SOUTH STAFFS GC, DANESCOURT RD, TETTENHALL, WV6 9BQ
Ok the unlucky thirteen for this Wednesday’s ‘Second Super Swinger’s Day Out ‘ are listed below in their pre-drawn groups, to save me a bit of time and organisation on the day. Note: all groups have been randomly drawn using the new Burnett-o-Diceomatic selection system, with a duplicate-identity algorithm attached to ensure that you hopefully end up playing with different partners from the fixture at Leek. Ok we have the first tee from 10.10 am but I am pleasantly informed by the Chairman that our package also includes a BACON ROLL and COFFEE from 9.30am onwards … so please arrange to assemble in your socially-distanced groups of 3 and 4 from that time. As at Leek, please mark on your handicaps as listed below and score your own cards , so as to make sure that you keep your own viruses to yourself !! Again, NO PREVIOUS TOURNAMENT PENALTIES HAVE BEEN APPLIED, just the standard competition adjustments of course from Leek … (e.g. whilst not playing on Wed, Mr Elson would have been cut from 7 to 3) . The top 3 winners and losers will be adjusted accordingly as normal. Again , please return all cards to me upon completion of your round where, following the usual ratification, the Chairman will be handing out his normal personal selection of prizes, with the standard minimum of congratulatory words, so that any excitement and jollity is keep within Covid guidelines.
ORDER OF PLAY :
Group 1 : WAGG G (8), ALLOTT (24), and BURNETT (33)
Group 2 : WAGG J (8), REYNOLDS (14), and COLTON (16)
Group 3 : ENGLISH (19), ROBERTS (24), and BROGDEN (31)
Group 4 : JUDD (22), FOSTER (25), TAYLOR C (26), and JEFFERY (27)

16/09/20 – Good afternoon All. Ok for starters…please find attached Handicap Info And Rules (such as they matter, this year) for Friday at Leek. PLEASE MARK UP YOUR OWN CARDS USING THE FIGURES IN YELLOW and RECORD YOUR OWN SCORES … note NO TOURNAMENT WINNERS PENALTIES HAVE BEEN APPLIED FROM LAST OR PREVIOUS YEARS … i.e everybody is playing off their full ‘ Normal ‘ Aardvark handicap.
You will note that we have a couple of new faces this year … welcome to Messrs Reynolds and Elson Jnr, and of course to Elson Snr, returning after a 10 year absence. Of course all 3 have correctly and honestly declared their opinions of their current handicap, which has been input into the updated BoM computer … and the appropriate adjustments produced for Aardvark GS purposes !!! We will of course make round adjustments for the winners this year and the carried over tournament penalties will return all being well next year. Please return all cards to me (fully sanitised, of course) after you have played on Friday from a correctly socially-distanced position on the terrace.
For those of you who may or may not be interested, I have also produced the typed up records of last year’s 25th anniversary tournament in Stratford … so please find attached:

14/09/20 – To those fine figures of men who will be competing for greatness this coming Friday at Leek Golf Club, please take a minutes to read the attached. We are asked to only turn up at 10.15am, Karen, the wonderful admin guru at the Leek club, will ‘be at the top of the carpark from 10.15am to welcome you to the Club and to go over any questions you or your members may have. I will issue scorecards upon arrival and send you around to the 1st tee in your 4-ball groups so that we don’t have groups gathering on the patio.’
Whilst umpiring a Hockey game, Nick had time during a 16 yard free hit, to invite the opposition captain to make the draw for the groups. This was the result:
G1-Burnett, R Elson, Brogden, P Nicholson
G2-D Elson, G Wagg, Roberts, Judd
G3-J Wagg, Foster, Jeffery, English
G4-Taylor, Maddocks, S Nicholson, Reynolds…
Following completion of the round, we are asked to remain in our fourballs, hopefully on said patio where tables are all set out in tables of 4 (please don’t move furniture around) to hear the results come forth from the Burnetto-matic apparatus. You may recall that this is the first of two super days out this autumn, just to keep us swinging until we can resume normal service, hopefully next year. The second round will be on Weds 14th Oct at South Staffordshire Golf Club in Wolverhampton – and a fine venue it is to. https://www.southstaffordshiregolfclub.co.uk/ The tee has been reserved for 10.15am. 04/08/20 – Ah sounds like Adams could give some of us a lift so we can have a few beers 🍺🍺🤣 – Fozzy
04/08/20 – Hi, sadly its 3 -no golf for me. Haven’t been able to play since wrecking knee before Xmas and wretched virus has stopped all knee replacement operations.  Would be lovely to join you for a socially distanced drink after if I’m not self isolating before “hoped for” operation. Stay safe. Chris Adams

04/08/20 – Hi Col, 1 or 2 for me ! – Jezza
04/08/20 – Poo and 1 or 2 please and thank you – Stroppie
04/08/20 – Gents, Well its all a bit of a mess isn’t it? Back in February I felt sure my newly re-built swing would deliver victory in this years ‘fest du swing’, thereby condemning messers Allott and Burnett to another 12 months of anonymity (ie non key holder to the Hall of Fame), within the Golfing world. It now seems that my trusty mashie-niblick can stay in the bag because Covid will do it for me. The previously identified dates of 2-4 Sept and the probability of our usual 2 night-3 day format would appear to be a non-starter and so it seems Dunc will hang on to the RW Thomas shield for another 12 months … Whilst stay-overs and the usual cavortary may be out of the question, I thought I’d ask if anyone were interested in meeting up for a day job … or not?
So gents, a straw poll and the options are…?
A single mid-week day out towards the end of Sept sort of equi-distant from us all … say Cannock-ish. Meet in the car park and then hopefully a drink outside the clubhouse before disappearing back home.
As above but two individual days, one around Birmingham and the other in Staffs, Leek-ish
Nope. not fussed. Decided to sleep through rest of 2020 and come back in 2021.
reflections and views please by say this time next week…. and we’ll try to make a decision. Col
19/02/2020 – Hi Col, Unfortunately, I’m away on holiday then!  Cheers, Tim
19/02/2020 – Phil, What about your knee? Foz
19/02/2020 – What fantastic news for us all … A new brain at last! Col
19/02/2020 – Thankfully my bionic implant will have settled … Phil N
19/02/2020 – Gents, Apologies for the delay in getting the dates out for this year’s swingers festival.  There have been complications over Hockey tours, weddings, Horse racing awaydays and then family holidays … blah blah …
Anyway, after protracted consultation with this year’s supreme being, Mr Brown, we think it best to dodge the spring showers and revert to the leafy autumn.  Those older swingers amongst you will recall this our favoured season, that was before the event offered ranking point for Ryder Cup selection and we had to bring it forward in the PGA European Tour calendar.  So, can you pencil in Weds 2nd to Fri 4th September into your diaries.  Dunc is now on with the choice of courses and will no doubt let us know when he’s sorted ‘em out.  All the best … Col
